Driveway Permits
For customers submitting documents to obtain permits for new construction or mobile home placement, it is now possible to obtain the driveway permit at the same time right at the Building Department! Follow the process below for applying for a driveway permit:
1. Complete the Madison County Public Works Application (available online)
2. Apply for an address for the property (vacant property) at the GIS/911 Addressing Office
3. Pay the necessary permit fees
- $50 - New Driveway Permit
- $15 - Existing Driveway Permit
4. Contact the Madison County Road Department for further instructions regarding driveway inspections, driveway installation, etc. at (850) 973-2156. The contact people are Jo Williams, Louise Jenkins, or Debbie Henderson; their office hours are Monday - Thursday 6:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
For driveways located off of state-maintained roads, contact Sherry Craft at the Florida Department of Transportation at (850) 838-5800. Below is a listing of the state maintained roads:
- NE Colin Kelly Highway
- SR 6
- SR 145
- SR 14 (North of I-10)
- SR 53 (North of I-10)
- US 19
- US 90
- US 221

New U.S. Department HUD Regulations - Effective October 2008
Effective October 15, 2008, all mobile / manufactured homes will be required to be placed on a foundation constructed on firm, undisturbed soil or fill compacted to at least 90 percent of its maximum relative density. A site-prep inspection is required by the Building Department determining where on the property the mobile home will be set up for permanent placement. Code Changes - Effective March 2009
Effective March 1, 2009, the 2007 code changes will go into effect. This includes Building Code, Residential Code, Plumbing Code, Fuel Gas Code, Mechanical Code, and Existing Building Code. The complete 2007 collection is available in the office for viewing. Additionally, both the 2007 Florida Building Code and 2009 Supplement are available online at the web page link below:

2. What is the 2009 Supplement? The 2009 Supplement to the 2007 Florida Building Code incorporates changes made during the glitch code change process. Teh glitch code change process followed the code amendment process that produced the 2007 Florida Building Code. A number of terms used during the code change process such as glitch, and revision, etc. refer to the same document, the 2009 Supplement. The 2009 Supplement contains changes made to the 2007 Florida Building Code going into effect along with the 2007 Florida Building Code.
3. When did the new changes go into effect? Both the 2007 Florida Building Code and the 2009 Supplement became effective March 1, 2009.
