Recommendations for the use of Generators
A couple of recommendations from our building department for the use of generators as Hurricane Irma approaches:

1. Nobody really knows when their power will go out, but the best time to begin to use your generator is after the power has gone out and the storm has passed.

2. Never run you generator in an enclosed area. Operate it outside your home in a location where you can monitor it and the exhaust will stay out of the house.

3. Only connect the appliances you need to operate and connect them directly to the generator. Prepare for that before you need to do it. Find the cords you need now.

4. Running a fan will make a huge difference in your level of comfort. Air conditioning will probably have to wait until the power company restores your power.

5. Keep safety first. Electricity is great to have but can be very dangerous. If it isn’t done correctly, it can kill! Better to use these recommendations and be able to talk about it later.
