Board Overview:

Madison County Planning & Zoning board was established to act as the local planning agency and report to the Board of County Commissioners. The board consists of seven (7) members all appointed by the Board of County Commissioners: two (2) At-large members, one (1) member from each district, two (2) alternate members, and a school board representative. Members serve a three year term and alternates serve a one year term. The Chair and Vice-Chair are appointed or reappointed annually at the first meeting of each year.

Board Duties:

The Planning & Zoning board is responsible for reviewing and taking action on the applications for development pursuant to the county’s land development code and other ordinances. The board oversees the effectiveness and status of the land development code and recommends amendments to the Board of County Commissioners that are consistent with the county’s comprehensive plan. The board provides advice about land use policies through regular meetings and ad hoc scheduled workshops. It also conducts public hearings to gather the necessary information draft, establish, amend, and maintain various elements of Madison County’s comprehensive plan and Land Development Code.

Board Meetings:

The Planning & Zoning board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the courthouse annex building, room 107. These meetings are open to the public.
